Steps to a Better Quality Life
Deliberately and actively delaying aging and its consequences is a perfect example of mind over matter. Trying and succeeding on postponing the aging process should be mostly a fight for a better and more meaningful quality of life.
Aging is both a biological and psychological phenomenon while the chronological aspect of it is strictly limited to the record on the driver's license or birth certificate.
The signs of aging begin in the mind and the body will only get the messages and start acting accordingly.
Succeeding in the quest for a better quality life is all about enjoying new and rewording experiences. It is about taking stock of personal accomplishments, both professional and family matters. It is all about knowing that you did the best you could under the circumstances and being proud of your efforts while accepting the results. Actively pursuing meaningful satisfaction and well disserved fulfillment will fuel the optimism that makes life worth living.
While many cultures around the world value wisdom and experience above youth and energy, our society does not. Fighting ageing and its shortcomings should not be a question of social pressure; it should be mostly a personal decision based on realistic expectations.
To improve the odds of a long and meaningful life and to manipulate them in our favor, there are a few relatively simple steps to take:
1) The importance of mental stimulation is crucial.
Keeping an active mind and a positive attitude is the first and most important step in achieving good and long lasting health. Being genuinely interested in people and being excited about events is the mind's fuel that will keep the body's engine running. Fulfillment comes from the satisfaction of living productive lives and from making a positive and meaningful contribution to society.
Being of help is a way of validating our fundamental human qualities and reinforcing the positive attitude that brings satisfaction and joy. It gives people of all ages a purpose that will generate the needed energy to face new challenges and overcome difficulties related to age, especially depression and its devastating consequences of sadness and isolation.
Keeping busy, whether by working part time or attending social events, as well as being surrounded by people, will bring excitement, satisfaction and a sense of fulfillment.
Playing games, especially sudoku or solving cross puzzles will keep the mind active and stimulated while
