The Aryan Molossus is an ancient breed of dog that dates back far before the days of juries and civilized court processes. These dogs were used for fighting other dogs and in this way, handling disputes between people. The reputation of these dogs makes today's pitbull reputation seem like a lap dog's. The Aryan Molossus was known to be vicious and was rarely even approached, let alone handled, by anyone except for its owner. It is believed that this breed has its roots in Afghanistan and was bred using the Sage Koochee and other Mastiffs. In addition to fighting in the ring in days past, they are also employed as watch dogs and guard dogs.
According to breed standards, the Aryan Molossus should be between 17 and 20 inches tall, when measured from the ground to the withers and their weight can be up to two hundred pounds. Males of the breed are typically larger than females, often significantly so. These are very large, very muscular dogs and their strength is without question. The Aryan Molossus has an athletic and nicely proportioned body. The ears are held in the flopped over position, shaped in a "V". The eyes hold an expression of alertness and intelligence, as well as being quite guarded and wary in the presence of strangers.
The Aryan Molossus is double-coated, having a thick and dense undercoat covered by a short and soft overcoat. According to breed standards, acceptable coat colors are almost unlimited, including both solid and multi coat colors. Their grooming is quite easy. A weekly thorough brushing with a stiff, rubber-bristled brush and a shampoo when needed will suffice. This will help to remove some of the loose hair and ensure that nothing is stuck in the fur. The breed are medium shedders. They are not a breed that is bred for pretty looks, but for a very specific job.
They are highly intelligent dogs and can be trained quickly, as they are instinctive about what their purpose is. Training must be consistent, with the human establishing his or her position as "pack leader" from the start. High praise and reward for a job well done or a lesson well learned is very helpful. They tend to be exceptionally active mentally and physically, so this helps when it comes to training. If you are firm, consistent and calm, the dog will respond well to training and learn quickly. They will not, however, have their natural instincts "trained out" of them and should only be owned by those who are aware of their temperaments and are experienced in dealing with this type of dog.
The Aryan Molossus is a breed that has a purpose and that purpose is not as a social, companion dog. These dogs make wonderful watch dogs as they are very loyal to their owners, but if they sense danger, they will attack and they will not give up, even if it costs them their own life. They may attack with very little, if any, warning and owners should never assume that the dog will do otherwise. The Aryan Molossus was bred for fighting and they were bred to win fights. Once engaged in a battle, no owner should think that they will be able to command the dog to end the fight. They are very dog aggressive and many will show that same level of aggression towards human strangers, as well.
