Magic the Gathering card analysis: Sliver Legion

by Elton Gahr

If you thought you had seen the last of the slivers then you were clearly wrong. Having been gone for some time they reappeared in the time spiral block nearly as powerful as ever and at the center of that power is a five color card that is as powerful as any sliver we have ever seen.

Sliver Legion is a rare legendary sliver from the future sight expansion set of magic the gathering. A 7/7 creature it costs one white mana, one red mana, one green mana, one blue mana and one black mana to put into play. It's ability reads "All Sliver creatures get +1/+1 for each other Sliver on the battlefield."

This coat of arms for slivers is one of the more absurd sliver abilities especially if you begin to combine it with the many other sliver abilities that already exist in just the time spiral block.

One of the most valuable of the slivers in conection with this is the small green sliver gemhide sliver. This is because with a single gemhide sliver and even one or two others Sliver legion becomes almost absurdly easy to put into play. This is because gemhide sliver gives each sliver the ability to tap for any color mana, allowing you to get all five colors easily.

Fury sliver is of course almost always good as it can give all other slivers double strike, combine that with the ability to pump them up like sliver legion and it becomes almost unstoppable.

The ultimate sliver to combine this with though does not exist in the time spiral block. This card is the Sliver queen. Also a 7/7 legend for five colors if you can put one into play then you can likely put the other into play and her ability works perfectly with his, as you can pay two colorless to put a 1/1 sliver token into play, and pay this as many times as you want each turn. If doing this also gives every sliver you have +1/+1 it becomes an almost unstoppable army very quickly.

If you are playing slivers and you have any chance to put the sliver legion into play it is one that you should take, the only weakness is that being five colors it can be a little tricky to put into play as early as you might like, but with some good deck building this can become a minor problem and you may even get this card into play before the fifth turn.
