Online video game reviews: Farm Frenzy

Farming Frenzy is a downloadable flash game for Windows. I had read some reviews of the game and when I saw a 30 minute demo, I decided to bite.
The whole point of the game is to do various chores on a farm. This starts off with collecting eggs and protecting your livestock from bears. You slowly have access to new livestock and must get to work processing eggs (and other produce) into other products. You can buy new additions like bigger storage sheds and faster cars (that go to town to sell the produce/livestock...and bears).

The gameplay itself is very simplistic, but quite addicting. On every stage, you start with some kind of animal and an empty field. You must start things off by planting grass to feed the animals. This is done by simply clicking on the field. After planting some grass, you will need to "buy" more water from the well. Once grass is planted the livestock will start producing eggs, milk, etc. You then click on the produce to add it to the storage shed. Click on the storage shed and you can decide what you want to send to town to be sold. When you start to get more buildings, you simply click on them and they will take eggs (or whatever) out of storage and process them. From time to time, bears will attack the livestock. At first, a single bear attacks at a time. As you get further, more bears come at once. Bears can be captured by clicking on them a few times. If you do not capture the bears they will knock livestock off the farm and destroy produce. Captured bears can be sold in town, but take up a big part of the storage shed. Upgraded buildings can process more produce at a time, which helps earn money faster.

Each level has two time limits. These are not necessarily a time in which you must beat the level. Rather, if you do beat the level in the time limits, you can earn more points for upgrading the farm. If you beat the level within the first time limit, you get a gold medal and a nice amount of bonus points. If you beat the level within the second time limit, you get a silver medal and a small bonus. If you take longer than that, you get no bonus points. It is not hard to beat the levels in these time limits, but does add a bit of incentive to work quickly.

All in all, the game is not very deep and does not take long to beat, but it is a great time waster. At only $6.99, it is hard to say no to this game. At the very least, try the 30 minute demo.
