In what circumstances is government censorship of media appropriate?

Title endorsed in part by:

For all those who feel censorship itself should be censored, take a step back and look at what we have become as a result of "lacked" censorship. Everyone has a right to freedom of speech, or what can be put out via media as long as it's channeled properly. But the fact of the matter is that without censorship, we are heading in a direction that undermines the very fabric of society.

Lets look at an example that makes perfect sense that anyone can understand, as I'm sure no matter how you paint a picture, everyone see's what they want to see. But in the example I'm providing, it should be crystal clear as to how non-censorship can bring about a society that would struggle to survive the moral values intended for us all.

Think of a beautiful flower garden, and all of the beautiful plants that are free to grow without having to weed out the garbage that eventually will kill off the good plants that you so carefully want to protect. Without weeding, your garden will eventually be overrun by the unwanted weeds, and eventually die off.

What does this have to do with censorship in society? For one thing, lets look at society as we do the plants in your garden. With no censorship to weed out the violence, profanity, sex, video games with violence, and anything else that would have an impact on young minds, which if left unchecked, will eventually lead to them accepting it all as a way of life.

By weeding out the garden, this is a form of censorship. We won't allow our plants to be subjected to the onslaught of unwanted weeds. This is the same when it comes to society. We need to censor all that poisons young minds, as well as causing a tremendous amount of anxiety in adults.

The reason why the fifties were so great to be brought up in was because we had censorship on everything we would read, watch, listen to, or see in the movies. It was a clean wholesome life that we led, and once it was lifted, that is when our society went to the dumps.

It's trulyamazing how something so important as the future of our world, is ignored at the hands of those who promote everything that would ruin society forever.

As long as it is put out there, viewers and listeners will be caught up in it, and not ever realize how much it will have a negative impact on the rest of our lives. Just as we wouldn't allow weeds in our garden, we shouldn't allow the equivalent influence in society. Censorship is dearly needed to prevent our future generations from becoming insensitive to all that would be the end of a civilized society.
