Puppy potty training 101

When you get a puppy potty training comes with the package but no need to despair potty training can be made easy it just depends on how you approach it. Like children puppies are a sponge that is ready to absorb any information. This will make your job of potty training easier. If you're new at this, puppy potty training 101 is just what you need.

How quickly your success will come will depend on the breed of puppy you chose. Some breeds are noted for their quick response to potty training while others prove to be a little more difficult. This is something you should read up on before selecting your puppy if you want to go the easy route. All puppies can be trained it is just a matter of how long it will take. Some breeders start potty training quite early which you will find to be helpful.

You can start you're training by introducing puppy to the place you want him to go potty. This is usually outside but some people that don't have a back yard will use a litter box. Either way you should take puppy to the place and get him use to it. It can be helpful if he's already had an accident to clean it up and place the paper towel in the spot that you want him to use. Your puppy will need a little help until he gets the idea. Every half hour to an hour you should take your puppy to the place he has to go. Encourage him by talking to him gently. When you arrive at the spot use one word to get him to use such as pee or potty. The word is not that important as long as it is consistent. If your puppy goes potty an ample supply of praise should be shown.

To help your puppy on his way to going potty you can serve him dry food instead of wet. Dry food promotes firm stools so that when he do have accidents they are not as bad as what they could be for cleaning and may cut down on the amount of times he has to go. Feeding your puppy at the right time will influence his potty training. Always feed him on a schedule and stick to it. Once he is fed you know he will soon want to go potty which will make it easier on both of you. Every time your puppy drinks it won't be long before he will need to eliminate it so take puppy to his designated place and wait until he goes potty. Remove any food four hours before bedtime and water two hours before. Always take your puppy to go potty the last thing before bedtime and the first thing in the morning.

When you bring puppy home you have to realize that he is a baby and babies have very little control of their bladders or bowel movements
