Character Race...You never quite realize how "important" it is until you decide to start a new character. Then you sit there for upwards of 30 minutes, trying to decide, "should I be a Troll Mage? Maybe an Undead Warrior. Blood Elf Paladin?" Unless you have been playing world of warcraft so much that you have played every race/class combo, and there is nothing new for you in the game (in which case I highly recommend you apply for being a Game Moderator), picking your class and race is the most important thing, because you start to envision that character at level 80, and how he or she would look, and whether you like that or not. Then, you start obsessing over the fact that maybe, 40 levels down the line, you won't like him/her, and all that time is thrown away. You start hyperventilating, gasping for air, and running downstairs to get your inhaler.
Huh? What's that? You don't do that?
I see...
Well, maybe that's just me... heh.
So, what's so special about an Orc. Why did I decide to write about Orcs of all things. First off, and foremost, they look cool. I'm not kidding, Orcs look really, really good in full armor. Then again so does undead, but who wants to be a bunch of bones underneath a helmet (just kidding).
Besides looking fantastic (which I'm sure the Orcs don't really care that much about), playing as an Orc also gives you some special bonuses, that only Orcs have.
First off, you get Blood Fury, which Increases attack power by (your level x 4)+ 2 and your spell power by (your level x 2)+3. That spell lasts 15 seconds. You also get Hardiness, a passive skill, which reduces the effects of stuns on you for 15%, and Command, also a passive skill, in which damage dealt by Death Knight, Hunter and Warlock pets is increased by 5%.
Oh, you also have Axe Specialization, where your expertise in two-handed axes and fist weapons is increased by 5.
As you can see, being an Orc isn't all about loud grunts, and giant bull rings in your noses. It's more than knowing both Orcish and Common languages. It's something totally different in itself. Something that you have to experience for yourself, regardless what class you want to play as (even though being an Orc allows you to be a Hunter, Rouge, Shaman, Warlock, Warrior, and Deathknight). If you have never played as an Orc before, or even if you already have 10 level 80 Orcs, go, make another, I promise that you'll still enjoy the game every single bit as much as your previous characters, or even more, as it will bring feelings of nostalgia and warmth.
Ahh.... now I want to go make an Orc, even though I started a new Orc Hunter a week ago...
hmm....
Whatever, I'll figure that out on my own time. Enough with my ramblings and tellings, go make an Orc, and enjoy World of Warcraft for all it has to offer.

As far as gameplay goes, choosing a race in World of Warcraft is not very significant. For the details on the racial traits
Whilst there are many different and possibly more exciting races to play in World of Warcraft Orcs are a good solid choice
