I pray, on this Thanksgiving Day, for all that I neglect,
And in this praying hope my thoughts will give them some respect.
I pray for those who I dismiss, or sadly just ignore,
And those within this life of mine that I am living for.
I pray for those who suffer loss, and those who suffer none,
For all folks count and need our thoughts, when all is said and done,
I pray for those who cannot see, for those born deaf or dumb,
For those who disappoint themselves, or have this feat to come.
I pray for starving folks elsewhere, without the strength to live,
And somewhere past the words of prayers, pray for the will to give.
I pray for children who are strong, and those who find they're weak,
For those who talk about their needs, and those who cannot speak.
I pray for parents who are rich, that they may once explore,
The feelings and the sentiments of others who are poor.
I pray for soldiers who must fight in wars on foreign land,
Against the unknown enemies they cannot understand.
I pray for all religions, and no matter who they be,
For one small moment understand, they are like you and me.
I pray for those in power, may they make the wisest choices,
And those who live within the streets, that someone hears their voices.
I pray for children who are harmed, I pray for their abusers,
That they may get the help they need, I pray for their accusers.
I pray for every animal, each plant, each leaf, each flower,
For every second of the day, and every single hour,
And in my praying, thank the Lord for everything I've got,
Although our table may be sparse, I know this is a lot.
I teach my children how to pray, to recognize the need,
To overcome the thoughts of self, or thoughts of human greed.
Thanksgiving prayers are those which last, today and all year through,
They should become a part of life, in everything we do.
And as the turkey's cut and smiles reflect the joys we share,
I pray that God will spread his love to people everywhere.
And humble though my life appears, I hope God hears my wishes,
I put my apron on and start to do Thanksgiving dishes,
And even though the meal is done, my prayers linger on,
And last the whole year through intact, now Thanksgiving has gone.
My prayers become a part of me, in everything I feel,
And make the thoughts I teach my kids a treasure which is real.
A part of why we live and breathe, a part of why we're living,
Which last within our hearts and minds until the next Thanksgiving.

We thank You for Your love and care.

Dear God,
At this Thanksgiving
Please bring some peace upon the earth
Stop all the senseless killing,
Heal those who are
When the sun rises from the east
I pray...
When a drought turns to rain, soaking the fields with life-giving water
I pray...
