Book reviews: 204 Rosewood Lane, by Debbie Macomber

Welcome back to Cedar Cove. 204 Rosewood Lane is the second book in Debbie Macomber's Cedar Cove series and it picks up right where 16 Lighthouse Road left off. You don't have to worry if you missed the first book in the series because Debbie recaps the storyline in the first chapter of this book bringing you up to speed on the events and the main characters of the first book.

In this novel the loves and lives of the same residents of the town continue. In the first book, readers are left wondering what happened to Dan Sherman, Grace's husband who seems to have just vanished into thin air. As this book opens, Grace is signing the divorce papers and is feeling sad simply because she has no explanation for his desertion of the family.

You can follow Grace in this book as she develops a new love interest in Cliff Harding, the grandson of the man who died in the old-age home and left Charlotte with a key to his locker. Cliff has come to terms with the fact that his grandfather was never part of his life and realizes that toward the end of his life he was trying to make amends.

Although Charlotte does not play a major role in this novel, readers do become alarmed when she finds out that she has colon cancer and has to undergo surgery. Olivia and Jack are back and have developed a relationship although it never does go beyond kissing and holding hands. Jack does want to take it further but is hampered by the fact that his grown son has decided to move in with him while he sorts things out with his pregnant girlfriend.

We get to know Maryellen, Grace's daughter and a new character emerges in Jon Bowman. He is an expert photographer who sells his photos at the gallery where Maryellen works. She does like him and want to get to know him better, but memories of a bitter divorce when she was younger keep her back. The two do get together and Maryellen becomes pregnant, which she keeps a secret from Jon. At this point, readers may become angry at Maryellen for taking this route and cheer Jon on when he demands that he be part of the baby's life when it is born, after he finds out that he will be a father,

Justine and Seth are happily married. After Warren, the ex-boyfriend, tries to worm his way back into Justine's life, she tells him that she doesn't want to have anything to do with him. Tired of being separated with Seth works in the fishing industry in Alaska, the two decide to purchase a restaurant in Cedar Cove and hire Jon as their chef. They present Olivia with
