Poetry: Without love

Who needs love anyway?

It's not like love's important
in the whole great scheme of things
Who really needs the closeness
or happiness it brings?

I certainly don't want to be
caught up in romance
I'd run a mile before I gave
that kind of love a chance

To have a warm and caring hand
to hold when times get rough
would be a bleak reminder
that I'm not yet tough enough

A moonlit walk on sandy shores
with someone I adore
just passing time together
seems a waste of time, a bore

When nights are long and lonely
and I'm curled up in my bed
thoughts of love and tenderness
don't even enter my head

I am a loner, I please myself
and that's as it should be
No love could possibly ever hope
to find and capture me!

Oh who do I think I'm kidding?
