I always knew it would happen - my first kiss. And i dreaded it! What if the boy who kissed me had just eaten jalapeno peppers? My mouth would catch on fire! Or garlic? The stench would kill any and all romance involved. Or what if he accidentally bit me? Or put his tong in my mouth? Or what if, and this terrified me the most, it was i who kissed him, and he didn't even want the kiss in the first place?
These what-ifs clouded my head day and night as i went through middle school. But, luckily, sadly, or both, it did not happen. Yes, we held hands - another thing i was mortified to do (what if he didn't wash his hands after going to the bathroom? Or what if my hands became clammy with sweat?) - and hugged and danced. But not a single kiss. Not even on the cheek.
And then came high school. And there, i knew for certain, i would lose my lip virginity. I would be kissed.
But no. All four years i spent waiting - and dreading - for a kiss. It never came.
Or rather, it came close when suddenly i sneezed in his open mouth. He, who shall not be named, for my embarrassment will never be forgotten. And with another someone, i turned around, startled by a shrill noise. And then the porch light turned on. And so it went, every single time.
And so here i was - nearly 19 years old - a young woman who has not been kissed.
And then i met Nigel.
He was everything a girl could dream of. Tall, handsome, with dark curly hair, big blue eyes, well built body, and etc., etc.
And he was in love with me.
We met at a Starbucks.
I was just sitting there, when he brought me my coffee. And on the cup - Low fat soy milk/sugar free/triple shot iced latte - was his number, written with a sure hand.
I, being the lady that i was, eagerly punched the numbers into my phone and sent this text message:
"Who is this? And why do i have your number?"
A moment didn't pass before i received a reply:
My name is Nigel. And you are too beautiful a girl to pass"
I pondered on this for some time, and so, Nigel being an impatient man, i got the following message:
"I'm not sure how to say this...I think i'm in love with you..."
"Really?"
"Dinner at 8?"
"Where?"
"Here, the same table."
"Deal :)"
"Hello," Nigel greeted me at our table.
"Hey you," I replied, starting to blush.
"What's your name, gorgeous?"
"Amelia, Nigel."
"You remembered! Beautiful name. Though not as pretty as you."
Here i was positive that i turned maroon.
"Sit down, please."
"We're having dinner at a coffee shop?" I ask, finally gaining the confidence that the words coming out of my mouth wouldn't come out as squeals of joy.
"Why not? We've got a long night ahead of us..."
"Not so fast, champ, i don't even know you!"
"You will." He smiled the most gorgeous smile i've ever seen.
"Shall we start then?" I asked casually.
That's when he leaned across the table and planted his thin lips upon mine.
I've heard that sparks fly when you get your first kiss. But that's a lie. They're fireworks. The most beautiful ones anyone's ever seen.It is magic. The best feeling in the world.
"I think so," he said, drawing away.
"You're a good kisser..."
"I was taught - "
"I don't need to know who taught you... What i need to know is can you do it again?" I cut him off. With that i got my second, most amazing kiss in the world.
