Debt collection agencies: How to deal with late bill collectors

Do not allow the debt collector to bully you!

I have dealt with debt collectors that made me so mad I was shaking when I was done.

A woman called me , she leaves a message on my answering machine. She said " It is your best interest to give me a call!" and then she leaves her number. I called her back. She said " You owe 90.00 dollars" I said " I don't have the money" She said " Borrow it from someone" I said "Who?" She said " If you don't send the money I will have no other choice" I hung up on her. This woman did not tell me she was a bill collector nor did she tell me the name of her company. I called her back, I said " What is the name of your company? " She said " Why?" I said again " What is the name of your company?" She said " Oh we will be sending you a letter in the mail." I said again " What is the name of your company?" She finally gave me the name. Then I asked " What is the address of your company? " She gave it to me. I filed a complaint with the FTC and the Attorney Generals office. After that I received recordings from the company not the woman. They properly identified themselves.

Another time I received a call from a man. He told me he was a bill collector and what the name of his company was. He said "I owed some money and I would have to give him my checking account number." I said " I will not give you my checking account number!" He said " That is a refusal to pay! " I said "No it isn't there are other ways to pay!" He said " If you don't give me your checking account number I will put that down as a refusal to pay and you better get yourself a good attorney! " He also said "that I have no choice but to give him my checking account number, you do what the credit card company tells you to do!" I hung up on him. I went online and found the address of the company he was with. I filed a complaint with the FTC and the Attorney General office. A few days later a woman calls me from the same company she was very friendly and asked if I could make arrangements with her about making payments. So I did give her my checking account number. After the Attorney Generals office received my complaint they wrote a letter to the company. I received a letter from the company, it was a response to the complaint I made with the Attorney General's office , it said that they sent my account back to my credit card company and they destroyed my checking account information. The letter also said they do not treat people like that and the man and woman who took care of my case were sent to a training class so they know how to handle cases better.

Even though you owe the money, you do have rights..
