Is it really possible to make money online

I have personally used a wide array of online money making websites. I have made money with very few of them. In this article I'm going to discuss the various types of money making websites I've used and my results. Before I go on I would like to stress the value of research. There are certain online websites that are notorious for banning any members for "cheating" as soon as they start actually making money.

The first type of money making website I'm going to discuss was one of my favorites. It was an online game that uses its own currency that you can trade for real world currency (second life is a good example of this). The idea being that any money making activities in the game could be used to make real money. The idea seems great but something like this is rather impractical for most people.

All of the money you make in the game comes from real world players. There were certain activities in the game that had money making potential but it was really more akin to gambling then working. For example, you could mine in the game if you bought mining equipment. In my personal experience you could mine for hours and hours, and you would very rarely mine anything that was worth more then the equipment. All of the equipment degrades pretty quickly, time and time again I wouldn't even get enough money from mining to pay for the equipment I had to use. I tried a few other similar activities in the game and encountered the same problems, you will very rarely make money from doing anything besides selling items to other players.

If you choose to sell items to other players you have to create them first. You don't create items out of nothing in this sort of game, you need materials and tools to make items. You have to buy these from other players. If other players don't buy the product you make, you're stuck with the bill. All of the real world risk of running a business, with currency you bought online. The whole thing is beautiful from the standpoint of the people developing the game. These kinds of games can be fun, but I don't recommend them for trying to make money.

Survey websites are a good idea, but like always, problems persist when it comes to making decent amounts of money online. Think about it for a second, if you could make money filling out surveys online everyone would be doing it, filling out tons of random answers and collecting a fat check. The results wouldn't be a good indicator of what most people really want or believe, and wouldn't be useful
