Crispy spiced maple leaves
clinging to their swaying trees are
waltzing with the wood-smoke breeze
on a mushroom padded dance floor
under a pumpkin moon.
A generous mist of autumn rain
soaks the apple trees in vain, as the
soft pink flowers no longer remain
and are now vibrant red apples galore
dangling plump like party balloons.
Fresh fall ingredients for a harvest stew
seem to sense their time is through,
golden potatoes grew right on cue
to accompany carrots, celery and more
deliciously devoured with a spoon.
