Choosing a pair of winter gloves will depend upon a few different factors. To start off with, you will have to decide what you want to use the gloves for. Are they simply just to keep your hands warm, or do you have a particular purpose in mind for the gloves? For example, if you are wearing the gloves to snow shovel, or if you work outdoors during the winter they will need to be durable, as well as being warm. By finding out the purpose for the gloves, you can then make a decision as to what type of gloves are right for you.
What material should you choose?
Leather is particularly hard wearing, and ideal for driving during the winter months. Wool can be warm, as long as it is thick wool, and if the woollen gloves are insulated this makes them a lot better for keeping in the warmth. You should also look for a material that is waterproof, if they let in water your hands will get cold in no time at all. If the gloves are going to be worn for winter sports ypu will want material that isn't too heavy, but is also warm. Skiers normally use gloves that are lined with either wool or fleece to allow their hands to breathe, while also keeping the warmth in the gloves.
What style of gloves should you choose?
Again, it all depends on what you will be using the gloves for. Gloves with rubber grips on the palms and fingers are ideal for snow blowing or shovelling. Convertible gloves are good for this purpose to, as you can convert to the fingerless style when you need better grip. Style is somewhat dependant on personal taste, but when it comes to gloves, practical is better than fashionable, especially if you live in a particularly cold environment.
What size of gloves should you choose?
The gloves should not be too big for your hands, they should be of a snug fit, without being too tight. You should be able to move your fingers freely and comfortably. Longer cuffs are great for fitting under the sleeves of a jacket in particularly harsh climates.
What price should I pay for a pair of gloves?
Prices range depending on the style and brand of gloves. Some gloves are really cheap, and a lot are expensive. Like most things, if you buy the mid-range or more expensive range of gloves you will be better off, they will last longer. You will get more for your money, and they will protect your hands more than the cheaper options.
At the end of the day, choosing gloves is a matter of personal preference. However, you need to take into consideration what you are using the gloves for in order to make the right decision to suit your needs. Warm hands during the winter months is very important, and choosing the correct pair of gloves can make all the difference.
