Preschool Discipline Ideas For The Classroom

Teachers in preschool classrooms have a constant struggle on their hands to keep discipline in order. The preschool classroom needs to have discipline, or else the children will not learn that there are consequences for their actions, and the class will not be able to run smoothly and efficiently.

The preschool classroom requires discipline more than punishment, since discipline is more of a concept than a consequence. Discipline is something that children in the preschool classroom can understand, as they are becoming more aware of themselves, and their role within the school setting and community.

The areas of black and white are still an opaque grey, but they are learning. The more integrity the preschool teacher has, the more respect will be garnered, and the classroom can operate in an effective manner.

Many preschoolers have heard the word 'no' on enough occasions to figure out that not everything goes as far as they are concerned. While they may not agree that following these rules is in their best interest, they do acknowledge their necessity. Preschool discipline in the classroom should be more about following established rules, and learning why they are important.

Knowing how to act in any given situation is vital information, and punishment is often lost on children in a preschool classroom. All discipline should be doled out immediately, and in direct accordance with the punishment given to other students. There can be no exceptions, or bias of any sort.

Notions such as time-out tend to work, as do positive re-directions. When dealing with children in a preschool classroom, any form of discipline deemed necessary should be done in a short amount of time, immediately following a behaviour that was inappropriate.

It is also imperative that the child knows that it was their action, and not them that is the problem. A preschool child needs to have a healthy self-esteem, and a confident stance.

Some of the best discipline ideas and strategies for a preschool classroom involve;

*Create a list of things that are unacceptable with the input of the preschoolers (teacher should lead them towards the behaviours intended to quell). Have the children agree upon reasonable consequences for disobeying the rules of the class.

*Clearly stipulating what the actions were that were unacceptable, and a brief explanation as to why they are unacceptable.

*Always remaining calm, never losing your composure while disciplining
