For thousands of years choosing the gender of your child has been left up to Mother nature and her miracles. I have heard of many ways that you can supposedly sway the statistics of a 50/50 chance of getting a boy or girl. But no one has ever held any concern for these folk law ways. It is now that heads start to turn and people start to listen. Science has found a way to let you effectively choose the sex of your unborn child.
Science is a huge scary thing that has little limits and is always jumping ahead of the game. Only around twenty years ago did people think that choosing the gender of your child, or any such traits, was an impossibility. Now people are scared that designer babies will threaten the future of the worlds population and a parents love for their child. But ethics has pulled this new discovery back onto its knees as people shout out loud and clear 'no'.
In this debate on whether or not embryo and sperm selection, two ways in which you can choose your baby's sex, is right I would say no for many reasons. My main reason is to do with 'playing God'. I have no religion, but I do believe strongly in Mother nature. Her ways are a mystery to most of us, but it is with her help that we are able to live on this world with little worries. So when we go about trying to change her creation and try to act like the god of our 'new world' I start worrying. This world is like it is for a reason. It rains because plants need it. We eat meat because it is essential for our survival. The sun shines as it helps the Earth to live. And our child's sex is not under our control because the survival of the human race could count on it. Man kind wants to control everything they get their hands on. If they don't understand it then it scares them. If they can't control it it annoys them. But why do they have to go so far that they start messing around with the fate of their own children?
Gender selection is wrong. It can cause favouritism in families and could outbalance the Earth's population. We all know that now-a-days what we wear, where we hang out and what we get up to depends on the latest trends. What if having a baby girl becomes the latest trend? If people looked down on you for having a boy and looked up at you for having a girl what would the world result to? Our society would become a web of prejudiced people and thoughts, a place were people would judge you on whether you have breasts or not. Do we want this to be our child's future?
Gender selection is wrong, period.
