Writing for Internet writing communities

Writing for several Internet communities might seem like a wise idea at first, but it is possible to spread yourself too thin, minimizing your production as a writer. How much really gets accomplished when you are so busy multitasking that you can't focus on any one thing? Internet writing can be turned into a career that earns you a decent wage. Where do you begin and how do you follow through with this desire, especially when there are so many ways to pursue it?

*Choose one or two writing venues: The choice is yours in this veritable playground of information and content. Do you want to design web pages, create pods, or submit articles and blurbs? Scan the territory and find the way that works best for you. You may have varied interests, so feed your creative streak, but don't spread yourself out too thin.

*Build up your portfolios: Once you choose a writing venue, you need to fill it with lots of fresh new content. You need to be consistent in your posts, and create a strong presence by meticulously increasing the content in your portfolio. Set goals to write at least three or more new submissions daily until you reach a few hundred.

*Participate in the process: Make a name for yourself by being active with your peers and followers. Develop friendships with people, networking and connecting in the process. Join the forums and offer valuable information while learning new things from others too. Encourage other writers by complimenting their work, telling them about a small typo that might be causing them a problem in one of their pieces, or sharing common ground on trying to earn a living as a writer.

*Keep your content original: Some internet sites let you put duplicate content on them. This may help them increase their overall product, but it hurts you. When you submit duplicate content on different sites, you are in essence competing with yourself.

If someone performs an internet search on a little researched topic that you have written to, they will likely bring up both of your articles from two different sites. They may expect to be able to read two completely separate articles, but instead get the same piece written by you. This is frustrating for anyone trying to find new information about a topic. But if the same person brings up two articles that approach the same subject in diverse ways, and you are the author of both, you've not only earned page views, but increased your reputation as a good writer too.

If you like to write for the Internet, have fun with it and let it work for you. Try not to spread yourself too thin, increase your portfolio to maximize your earnings, become a valued member of the communities you support, and keep your work fresh and new. This is how you build your reputation as a valued Internet writer, and it also makes it easier to participate in Internet writing communities.
