I am thankful
For the silken night that sneaks
Over my world in peace,
For the red sunset glowing
that puts awe on my child's lips,
For the silhouette of a fisherman
On the silver shimmering lake,
For the road I'm on as I'm driving
Home from shopping trip,
For the pizza we ate for dinner
With the extra cheesy, oozing stringy bit.
For the confidence of a little girl
Wearing a fedora in hot pink,
For each morning when she rises
A smile beaming in each cheek,
For waking from a slumber
That left me rested and at peak,
For God granting me another day
To rise and see all of this,
In all its innocent glory
And the simple beauty that exists.

No child of mine will carry my name
No life will make that plea
I die and take my name unclaimed
only a memory
