Baby showers are traditionally a time for women to gather together to celebrate he coming birth of a child, and they may do so with food, conversation, gifts, and games. Another, creative way to celebrate the new mother and her child is to incorporate a craft into your time together. Even if all the party attendees are the best of friends, it's nice to accompany the conversation with a hands-on activity! The inclusion of a craft will not only serve as entertainment for the party, but it will also result in a finished product that the expectant mother can use as she welcomes her baby into its new home. In this article I'll detail a number of fun and easy craft ideas that will be entertaining for your guests and will be appreciated by your guest-of-honor. I'll also outline some important considerations you'll need to make in planning the baby shower.

Almost as important as choosing the craft itself is determining the logistics of supplies for the activity. Some projects require the purchase of items that you won't have lying around the house, and this can get expensive on top of refreshments and decorations. To defray costs, you may want to ask attendees to bring a few dollars (explaining, of course, the reason for doing so in the invitation!) or to bring one of the components of the project themselves. Your choice should be dictated by the nature of the project and by the group of attendees. For instance, if the party will be attended by a group of close-knit friends who you've know for a while, it wouldn't be inappropriate to ask each woman to bring a few dollars. If your attendance list includes friends of the expectant mother that you don't know very well, then it's better to ask them to bring some supplies, or perhaps just choose an inexpensive craft that you can cover yourself!

You'll also need to decide when you want to work on the craft during the baby shower. Some projects won't require the full attention of the crafter, and can be done while the mother-to-be opens up her gifts. Others are more complicated and will need to be worked on before or after the gift-giving. Either way, make sure you have plenty of table or counter space so that everyone can work comfortably on their project.
