This winter you can still pull out that little black dress as a dark silhouette is one key look for 2010. Black is prevalent across the board from designer to high street, being highly wearable, practical and flattering. Creating a sharp silhouette with structured dresses and tailored looks is a classy and wearable trend for winter. If black is too harsh, many designers have been softening the edges with muted greys, another beautiful colour for winter. Grey was seen at John Galliano and Luis Vuiton, and has filtered down to high street stores such as Urban Outfitters and Zara.
This season also has several key colours which are brave choices but can still work for every day fashion. Nude colours have been very popular with designers, and many celebrities have stepped out in this colour this season. It can be an unforgiving colour and needs to be carried off with confidence to work well, but when you get it right it is stunning, classy and flattering. If you are not feeling too brave, accessorising in nude tones can hit this trend, and works particularly well for shoes. Nude colour court shoes elongate the legs and work well with bright statement dresses.
Another key look this season is spacey, futuristic designs which have given way to an explosion of glitter, sequins and sparkly tones. Arguably the biggest colour for winter, anything which glitters is on trend and stylish. A simple dress or top in sequins works well, or reverse the look with silver or gold leggings and a muted top. This is a fantastic colour for accessories, making it easy to add a bit of sparkle to any outfit, particularly back dresses or jeans.
With many looks being in muted colours like black or grey, bright highlights are another key trend for 2010. This is a look which works well for high street shoppers with many big names on the high street offering bright coloured belts, shoes, clutch bags and jewellery. Choose any signature colour from royal purples to brilliant blues and match your shoes, bag and other accessories paired with a black dress or with jeans for a casual look.
Being winter, colours perfect for warming up in the winter weather are natural browns, burnt oranges and deep greens. Nostalgic for autumn these beautiful colours lend thmselves to knitwear and coats. The up and coming trend for environmentally friendly fabrics and dyes also makes this trend perfect for eco-conscious designers. Natural fabrics work well to create an earthy look which has hit the high street too. Many natural colours are perfect for staple basics like roll neck jumpers, long sleeved t-shirts and leather winter accessories.
This winter's muted pallet is dashed with hints of colour and sparkle. Whether you are feeling brave or just want to get warm there is something for everyone this season.
