Magic the Gathering card analysis: Jhoira of the Ghitu

"Jhoira of the Ghitu" is a 2/2 legendary blue and red human wizard printed as a rare for the Magic the Gathering expansion set known as "Future Sight." This is perhaps one of the most interesting legendary cards printed as it gives you a means to play a bunch of spells without having to pay any mana for it. So far, you can use this in a five-color deck or a two-color deck with blue and red. In an EDH (Elder Dragon Highlander) deck, Jhoira of the Ghitu does make for an interesting general.

The converted mana cost for Jhoira of the Ghitu is three. You will need one blue mana, one red mana, and one colorless mana to bring Jhoira of the Ghitu from your hand and onto the battlefield. For what Jhoira of the Ghitu can do, the converted mana cost is well worth it. Keep in mind that Jhoira of the Ghitu is a legendary creature and is subject to the "legendary rule." If there are two cards on the battlefield named Jhoira of the Ghitu, then both of them get sent to the graveyard. Jhoira of the Ghitu also acts as a blue creature and a red creature. It means Jhoira of the Ghitu is susceptible to anything and everything that affects red permanents and blue permanents let alone creatures.

What does Jhoira of the Ghitu do in the first place?

There is only one ability present in Jhoira of the Ghitu. So far, the ability is more than enough. You pay two colorless mana and Exile from the game a nonland card in your hand for the time being. It gains Suspend 4. In this respect, the Exiled card will have four time counters on it. At the beginning of your upkeep, you remove a time counter from the Exiled card. When there are no more time counters, you play the card without having to pay the mana cost. Should it be a creature card, it gains Haste. Haste enables creatures to attack the moment they enter the battlefield.

So far, you do not have to tap Jhoira of the Ghitu to use this ability. It means you can pay four colorless mana and Exile two nonland cards from your hand. If you get Jhoira of the Ghitu onto the battlefield early enough, you have a means to get some expensive cards onto the battlefield in a matter of turns. One example would be the "Darksteel Colossus" which costs eleven colorless mana. It would take quite some time to build up the mana to be able to bring Darksteel Colossus onto the battlefield. With Jhoira of the Ghitu, you can bring it out in four turns. Bringing out Darksteel Colossus in four turns is much better than having to bring it out in six or seven turns.

In this respect, this is a handy way to bring out a bunch of expensive cards onto the battlefield. Because of this, Jhoira of the Ghitu is a pretty handy card for the most part. For an EDH (Elder Dragon Highlander) deck, Jhoira of the Ghitu makes an excellent general due to the low casting cost. All you need to do is come up with the three mana to summon Jhoira of the Ghitu. Then, you can follow up by Exiling cards from your hand. In a matter of turns, you can bring those cards onto the battlefield.

Overall, Jhoira of the Ghitu is an interesting card to have for the most part. Think of this as a means to get out expensive cards early enough in the game. Because of this ability, Jhoira of the Ghitu is invaluable.
