Freelance writing can be a tough career choice. It means getting up each morning and not only writing but spending time looking for paying writing opportunities. Pursuing a freelance writing career can take month or even years. It can mean frustration, rejection, and just plain hard work.

With all the time and effort it takes to build a freelance writing career you are probably wondering why bother to do so. There are many reasons why someone should pursue a freelance writing career.

Need The Money

One very good reason to pursue an freelance writing career is simply because you need the money. With today's job market still dwindling and jobs being scarce finding your own source of earning an income may be the only way to support yourself and your family. A mother with a special needs child, a person with health issues which limits the kind of work they do or has to have ongoing medical treatment. A person with an elderly parent or ill spouse.

There are all sorts of life situations that makes having flexible hours necessary. Traditional jobs rarely offer such an opportunity. Freelance writing does.

You Love to Write and You are good at It

One of the best reasons to pursue a career in freelance writing is because you love to write and you are good at it. While many writers do not have the fortitude or the discipline to write a novel, they may be able to write wonderful articles, poems, and other works that freelance writing venues are looking for.

Doing a job you love is one of the best reasons to pursue any career. People who love writing will find the challenges of freelance writing exhilarating, the earnings more than adequate, and having so many venues for their creativity thrilling.

Unlike being hired as a reporter or magazine writer, freelance writing allows you to write on many various topics using many various writing forms. It allows a writer to stretch their writing wings and try new styles and writing venues.

Whatever your reason for choosing a freelance writing career you will discover that all the hard work involved is nothing compared to having a career you love than meets most if not all your needs.
