How serious is global warming?

Global warming is so serious that many Republican presidential candidates have in the past denied that it exists. C.E.Os of some fossil fuel corporations have given support to the idea that it doesn't exist as a problem seriously enough to halt Alaska-Yukon gas pipeline projects to urge the government to outlaw internal combustion engines within 3 years. The siceintist-inventor of the Gaia hypothesis wrote a 2009 bookk with a different opinion-

The Vanishing Face of Gaia: A Final Warning by James Lovelock (Hardcover - April 13, 2009). Dr. Lovelock seems to believe the die is cast for 5 degrees plus and that the survival of human beings is now the challenge. The population is expected to creash through wars to a billion or so, more or less.

A fine enough manifesto not written by Ted Kuzinsky was also published recently-it by a Whole Earth catalogue guy, and provides more ideas that the world is in deep, deep, s... Whole Earth Discipline: An Ecopragmatist Manifesto by Stewart Brand (Hardcover - Oct 15, 2009).

If American leadership has been seduced and impregnated by the alien political philosophy of corporatism giving birth to vast public debt in order to profit the rich, that's o.k. if E.S.P.N. can at least provide entertaining sports scores. Sports broadcasts are the breakfast of champions we can all watch. That's entertainment. 'Global Warming Apocalypse Now the Musical' probably would do well if the syncopation and remixing were good enough. We like to watch T.V.

2009 had the most warm oceanic temperatures of the modern era. In Alaska the state averaged temperatures five degrees above normal. In late November 2009 Barrow Alaska had above zero high temperatures. Numerous collateral environmental issues of an adverse nature are expected to follow increased global warming effecting life on Earth, such as an increase in the rate of species extinction.

Fossil fuel emissions were up 25% between 2000 and 2009. One hundred CEO's are urging that the U.S. Government support an electric car fleet in the U.S.A. to replace the fossil fuel greenhouse gassers of the present. Global warming increases by human actions have changed a general planetary cooling trend into a warming trend the last 100 years. Changing the thermostat on atmospheric and planetary surface temperatures may be beyond human ability.

New technologies are advanced to sequester carbon emissions that are beyond the planetary processing capacity. New forms of carbon absorbing algae is one approach as is below ground sequestration of carbon byproducts from coal burning power plants.

Warm ocean temperatures can cause shifting of fish populations north and south and cause altered reproductive capabilities of plankton forming the fundamental organic link in the food chain of the sea. High acid content may diminish shellfish shell thickness. With the million anthropogenic pollutants in the oceans anthropogenic temperature increase may be the most invidious.

2009 is an El Nino year as well. Runaway global warming from a greenhouse
