Magic the Gathering card analysis: Muraganda Petroglyphs

"Muraganda Petroglyphs" is a green enchantment printed as a rare for the Magic the Gathering expansion set known as "Future Sight." This is a card that seems to help out creatures that have no abilities at all. There are printed creatures that have no abilities at all. Plus, there are plenty of tokens creatures without any abilities that can be produced in the process. For the most part, Muraganda Petroglyphs seems to be useful if you have a bunch of creatures with no abilities at all.

The converted mana cost for Muraganda Petroglyphs is four. You will need one green mana and three colorless mana to play Muraganda Petroglyphs onto the battlefield. For what Muraganda Petroglyphs can do, the converted mana cost seems to be well worth it for the most part. Keep in mind that Muraganda Petroglyphs is an enchantment spell. It means that Muraganda Petroglyphs is susceptible to anything and everything that affects artifacts.

What does Muraganda Petroglyphs do in the first place?

This enchantment is only effective if you have creatures with no abilities. Creatures with no abilities are those that have only "flavor text." This can also extend to token creatures. If they are simple token creatures without Flying, Trample, etc, then they can reap the benefits of Muraganda Petroglyphs. At any given time that Muraganda Petroglyphs is on the battlefield, creatures you control with no abilities will get +2/+2. As long as those creatures are not given any abilities, they will receive +2/+2 as long as Muraganda Petroglyphs remains on the battlefield.

In this respect, do not play anything such as "Rage Reflection." While Muraganda Petroglyphs is on the battlefield, you do not want to play anything that gives your creatures abilities for the time being. Should your creatures gain abilities, they will lose that +2/+2.

In an extended format, you can combine this with "Martial Coup." Martial Coup allows you to put X 1/1 white soldier tokens. They have no abilities. If you have paid five mana or more for X, all the other creatures get wiped out. With Muraganda Petroglyphs on the battlefield, those white soldier tokens would get +2/+2 and become 3/3 white soldier tokens. You can mercilessly attack your opponent with those tokens.

You can combine this with "Rampaging Baloths." You get to put a 4/4 green beast token onto the battlefield via Rampaging Baloths' Landfall ability. With Muraganda Petroglyphs on the battlefield, those 4/4 beasts would receive +2/+2. They would become 6/6 beasts.

Overall, Muraganda Petroglyphs is a pretty good card for the most part. This is great if you can produce token creatures with no abilities. If you can do that, you will get a lot out of this enchantment spell.
