A River Runs Through Us
He stood there weary, tired, and wet at the outer edge of space,
And wondered how he arrived in this God-forsaken place,
Gone was the last thing that mattered, as he glanced about it here,
Reality began to strike, was this the place they talked about?
That birthing place of fear?
What had happened when he was young, when life was still a dream?
The hopes, the expectations-so long ago it seemed,
Time, a raging river, marched him along this road,
The dark stream knows no mercy,
This river slows at nothing, it's unburdened by your load.
What had happened when he'd loved and lost,
The last thing that was clear, and glimpsed
the dark stream swallow her and spit him out- his loss was near and dear.
If only he had seen this place, and learned to rue the day,
Drenching wet with fear, he innately knew... a river runs one way.
It cannot bring you back, that's simply not it's chore,
It will not comfort you or dry you,
As you stand upon its shore. It leaves you
here and marches on, it cares not what or who,
It can't reverse it's course and start the journey new.
And as that man stood weary-his clothes began to dry,
He glanced about this sad place and breathed a heavy sigh.
He could stand here all he wanted, the choice was his to make,
The advice the dark stream gave him, was the advice he had to take.
No victory comes for those who struggle with
the wonder and the why,
When they find themselves in such a place... as the river charges by.
The dark stream charts its course and finds it's destiny,
And thus it too gets swallowed, by the waters of the sea.

It feels empty and uncomfortable;
