Poetry: I will always love you

by Wylee McCutchen

In the Garden of My Dreams

In the garden of my dreams,
It would be back to that night.
When the world still looked beautiful,
When everything was right.
In the garden of my dreams,
Death would not have lingered there.
The touch of your face still fresh,
The feel of you stroking my hair.
Swollen lips from passionate kisses,
A hunger restless in our souls.
Stolen moments of carefree nights,
Ones where nobody knows.
To smell you as I nuzzle your neck,
Or to lick the salt from your skin.
To live in this fate covered world,
Where once I'd just like to win.
I can almost still feel your arms around me,
If I close my eyes and breath in deep.
I can imagine it all a nightmare,
That I've only been just asleep.
I can almost recognize your scent,
Caught briefly in the chilling air.
I wonder if I imagined it all,
Or if you had really been there.
My tears, cold against my fevered face,
Know no home as the mark my cheeks.
It feels I've cried for years,
Then I realize it's only been weeks.
But I bring you back when I want to,
Even if it's only in my mind.
I know what we had was special,
I've never seen a love of that kind.
So in the garden of my dreams,
You'll stay with me forever more.
For dreams help me make it through,
When all I can find are closed doors.
I'll keep you safe within my heart,
And give only you the key.
And keep locked inside my garden of dreams,
Until the day you come back for me.
