Magic the Gathering card analysis: Imperial Mask

"Imperial Mask" is a white enchantment spell printed as a rare for the Magic the Gathering expansion set known as "Future Sight." From the looks of the card's ability, it would seem that Imperial Mask is something that is meant to be played in a team match or two-headed giant. That is provided that you are playing a deck with white cards. If that is the case, Imperial Mask is definitely a card that can help you out.

The converted mana cost for Imperial Mask is five. You will need one white mana and four colorless mana to play Imperial Mask. For what the Imperial Mask can do, the converted mana cost seems to be well worth it for the most part. Keep in mind that Imperial Mask is an enchantment spell. It means that Imperial Mask is susceptible to anything and everything that goes after enchantment spells.

What does Imperial Mask do in the first place?

Imperial Mask prevents you from being the target of spells or abilities that your opponents control. In this respect, opponents cannot do anything to make you sacrifice a creature, a land, or enchantment. You are immune to spells and abilities that deal direct damage to you. In one respect, you have a creature with Shroud and an opponent cannot play a spell such as "Diabolic Edict" on you.

That means opponents may have to systematically destroy your creatures, play spells/abilities that affect everybody, or simply get rid of the Imperial Mask. Because of what Imperial Mask can do, it makes it a good card for a white deck. It is great for a control deck that uses white cards.

However, the most use out of Imperial Mask comes in the team format. It can be a simple team format or a two-headed giant format. This is because Imperial Mask also helps out your teammates. In this case, Imperial Mask allows your teammates to each have a token that is a copy of Imperial Mask. When that happens, your teammates end up being protected in the process as well. With your teammates protected, it makes it harder for opponents to attack your team.

In an extended format in regards to team matches, Imperial Mask could get enough play for the most part. To get the most use out of the Imperial Mask, you want to have a format in which you have teammates.

Overall, Imperial Mask seems to be an impressive enough card since it protects you from spells and abilities that opponents control. However, opponents can still go after the permanents you control for the most part. With teammates, Imperial Mask helps you protect them. In a team format, Imperial Mask is a card worth looking into.
