There are hundreds of different brands of guitars, and finding the perfect guitar for you can be difficult. To help narrow it down a little, these are some of the best guitars: Gibson, Fender, Jackson, Ibanez, and Dean. There are many other guitar brands besides these, but I'm just trying to help narrow it down for you. Remember the best way in finding the best guitar, is trying out the ones that feel and sound the best to you.
Most people will classify guitars into Gibson categories and Fender categories. The reason being is that these are two of the most popular, well known and best manufactorurs. Although guitars tend to be very diverse, they usually share alot of similarities between these two companies. Gibson guitars have been the choice of rock musicians since the 60's and still are one of the best brands out there. On the other hand, Gibsons have pros and cons just like any other guitar. The pros to Gibsons are that they extremely well crafted, and are mostly made by hand. They also feature a wide variety of different kinds of guitars, some are good for heavy metal and rock, others for soft blues or jazz. So no matter what kind of guitarist you are, there is most likely a Gibson that will suit your needs. The downside to most Gibsons is that they tend to be very expensive in the upwards of $1,000 range.
The next brand is Fender. Unlike Gibsons, Fenders tend to be suited towards a couple different genres. They are mostly look for jazz, blues, and classic rock. The reason I say mostly is because they can always be outfitted with different pickups or wood to suit your need. The reason that they are mostly good for blues, jazz, and classic rock are for several reasons. The first reason is the wood. Fenders are made out of alder, as oppose to Gibsons which are made out of mahogany. Alder is much less dense than mahogany wood which means it will not produce as heavy a sound as mahogany. The other thing is the pickups. Pickups are basically strong magnets that "pick up" the strings vibrations thus they are called pickups. Fender pickups are single coil. This means that they are not as strong as a Gibson's humbucking pickups. Humbucking pickups are stronger thn single coil because they are two single coil pickups put into one. This means that humbuckers will produce a louder and heavier sound.
Whether you are into blues, rock, jazz, or country there is a guitar for you out there. All it takes is a little searching.
