Magic the Gathering card analysis: Korlash, Heir to Blackblade

"Korlash, Heir to Blackblade" is an X/X legendary black zombie warrior printed in the Magic the Gathering expansion set known as "Future Sight." This is one of the types of cards you want to put in a mono-black deck let alone a black deck full of zombies. So far, I have found Korlash, Heir to Blackblade to be one of the best black legendary creatures printed for the most part.

The converted mana cost of Korlash, Heir to Blackblade is four. You will need two black mana and two colorless mana to play Korlash, Heir to Blackblade. For what Korlash, Heir to Blackblade can do, paying the cost of four mana is highly reasonable enough for the most part. Keep in mind that Korlash, Heir to Blackblade is a legendary creature and is subject to the "legendary rule." If there are two cards on the battlefield at the same time named "Korlash, Heir to Blackblade," they both get sent to the graveyard.

What does Korlash, Heir to Blackblade do in the first place?

The first ability states that the power and toughness of Korlash, Heir to Blackblade is equal to the number of Swamps you control. This will help or hurt you in the process. If you have eight Swamps on the battlefield, then Korlash, Heir to Blackblade would be an 8/8 creature.

However, you could remedy that by playing "Door of Destinies" and picking the zombie creature type. All you would have to do is play zombie spells to add charge counters on Door of Destinies. Your zombies, including, Korlash, Heir to Blackblade, would get +1/+1 for each charge counter that Door of Destinies has.

Keep in mind that an opponent could play a spell that destroys all of your Swamps. If that happens, Korlash, Heir to Blackblade is going to the graveyard. It shows that Korlash, Heir to Blackblade is dependent upon the number of Swamps you have on the battlefield.

Should something happen to Korlash, Heir to Blackblade, you can pay one black mana and one colorless mana to regenerate it. However, it will not work if Korlash, Heir to Blackblade is destroyed by an ability that keeps it from regenerating. The same applies if it gets killed by an ability that decreases its toughness.

If you have another one in your hand, you can discard it for the Grandeur ability. Doing so allows you to search your library for up to two Swamps. You put them onto the battlefield tapped. This increases Korlash, Heir to Blackblade's power and toughness by two points.

With enough Swamps on the battlefield, Korlash, Heir to Blackblade becomes a terrifying creature to attack with. So far, I learned that it makes an excellent EDH (Elder Dragon Highlander) general in a mono black deck. Overall, this is a pretty good card to have if you are playing a mono black deck. If you are playing mono black let alone with zombies, this is a card you should have in the deck.
