"Magus of the Future" is a 2/3 blue human wizard printed as a rare for the Magic the Gathering expansion set known as "Future Sight." It is one of the five rare "Magus" cards printed in the Future Sight expansion set. In respect to Magus of the Future, it seems to be similar to the artifact from "Mirrodin" known as "Gate to the AEther." In a deck that uses blue cards, Magus of the Future is something that could prove to be pretty helpful for the most part.
The converted mana cost for Magus of the Future is five. You will need three blue mana and two colorless mana to play Magus of the Future. For what Magus of the Future can do, the converted mana cost is very well worth it. In an extended format, you could build a blue and green deck and combine it with "Oracle of Mul Daya." Even the card is somewhat old, Magus of the Future is still a useful card.
What does Magus of the Future do in the first place?
When Magus of the Future enters the battlefield, you play the top of your library revealed. Unfortunately, that could be a drawback since it allows your opponents to see what you are about to draw.
But, you can play the top card of your library if you want. However, the printed text is a bit vague for the most part. Perhaps you are able to play the top card of your library without paying its mana cost. In this respect, you can get things onto the battlefield much faster as a result. Being able to get certain things out fast enough early in the game tends to help out a lot.
Because of this ability, Magus of the Future somewhat parallels Gate to the AEther. When Gate to the AEther is on the battlefield, players reveal the top card of their libraries at the beginning of their respective upkeep steps. They can play those cards onto the battlefield if they are enchantments, creatures, lands, or artifacts.
In this respect, you get to put out cards faster via Magus of the Future. In an extended format, you can combine this with Oracle of Mul Daya and "Lotus Cobra." Oracle of Mul Daya requires you to play with the top of your library revealed. But, it allows you to play an additional land each turn. With those two cards combined, you could possibly play three lands a turn. With Lotus Cobra, you can use its Landfall ability to get an extra mana of any color whenever a land is played. With "Mana Reflection," you can double the amount of mana.
This is just one possibility.
Overall, Magus of the Future seems to be a great card in an extended format. If you are playing a deck with blue cards, one should consider having Magus of the Future. Having at least two of those cards should prove to be interesting enough. Think of this as a means to get your stuff out faster. With the extended format, you can combine this with the cards in "Alara Reborn" that have Cascade.
