Being a writer can be a frustrating ordeal. You have to put up with the low pay, the long hours, and the constant rejection. It can be enough to make a writer want to just quit. However, if you are going to make it as a writer, you aren't going to want to simply give up and quit. It wouldn't be what a real writer would do though, and you should just keep on going. How can you deal with the frustrations of being a writer?
The best thing to to do is just to keep in mind that you knew what was going to be happening when you started writing. You knew that there were going to be a lot of times where you just didn't feel like writing, or didn't feel like you could keep going. Hey, it happens in any career, you gotta just keep with it the best you can, and put in the hard work. If you didn't love what you do, you wouldn't still be doing it right?
You have to therefore love what you do, and take the good with the bad. Writing is a skill that few people have to begin with, and is sort of like being a professional athlete. Millions of people want to do what you do, and only a few ever really get to the top, and even a small percentage of people can even make a living from it. The fact that you can even enter the conversation as a top writer means you are doing something right.
Sometimes it is best to just not think about it. We can drive ourselves crazy thinking about all the things that could go wrong, and that can result in us beating ourselves before we even get started. There is nothing worse than defeating yourself mentally, because then you have been handed a worse defeat than that of being rejected by the publisher a million times.
The key to writing is just to have fun with it. Don't worry about how many articles you can write in a day, or how many articles are going to get published. Have fun with the process, and the journey of your work. Enjoy the people that you are going to meet, and the travels that you will get to go on in the quest to write that perfect novel. You might never get rich, but you have to admit that it is better than most jobs, and offers you a different type of freedom that other professions don't give you.
Being a writer is a great line of work to have, and is something that we have to enjoy doing. As a writer, you can't take it for granted that you are going to make it big, but you have to at least try. That means taking the good with the bad, and everything in between. To be a writer is to have a high tolerance for frustration, because that happens a lot. It is what we are brought into, and just the way the world works if you are a writer.
