Myths about products that defy age

Why does everybody fuss so much about getting older? Hasn't anyone ever said the line, "Gray hair is a sign of wisdom," and actually meant it? Age is not, nor should it ever be considered a curse. It is a natural progression of what we do, something that is earned and should be appreciated. Why do we spend so much time, energy, and money trying to prevent becoming who we are supposed to be? Is it worth it? Who really wins when we've chased after dreams that can't possibly come true, many that probably make us sick in the process.

*Cashing in on age: There is an entire ecosystem devoted to age prevention. Scientists, business people, marketing and branding professionals, along with many others saw the financial potential of cashing in on a fountain of youth, plaguing vanity with the undying debt of too much expense.

Then they targeted society with a message that becoming old was something you could actually control, reverse, and even defy. They never told us they were getting rich on the proposition, as they quietly conditioned us like hungry dogs, to devour the products conquering our fears. They never reminded us that changing our appearance doesn't slow down our internal clocks or prevent maturity from sneaking up on us. Instead we are bombarded with messages about the benefits of challenging and fighting off our age.

*Age defying products cause illness: Chemicals are harmful. On the surface they may appear to be beneficial, but when you dig a little deeper, chemicals really do create problems for those who are exposed to them. According to Natural News, "The growing list of synthetic ingredients manufacturers add to their products is turning the most innocent-looking shampoos and moisturizers into cocktails of toxins that could cause cancer or reproductive damage over years of sustained use. Modern cosmetics contain a host of dangerous ingredients, which would be more at home in a test tube than in our bodies." If that's true, then common sense tells us that many of these products not only fail on their claims to keep us younger looking, but they have the added detriment of making us age faster.

Let it be said right here and right now. Gray hair is a sign of wisdom. It is earned every time you discipline yourself to refrain from cursing your neighbor's dog for leaving presents on your lawn, and for every smile you give to the nasty clerk that accidentally charges you full price on sale items. Wrinkles are given as bonus points for laughing instead of throttling your teenager, and for excusing your spouse's irritability by making him feel better with a kiss instead.

The cost of age is wonder, curiosity, and a feisty spirit, while the gifts of age are, you said it first, priceless. Beauty never was meant to be only skin deep, and you've earned yours well by being a valued member of society, something no one else could ever properly cash in on. It's a personal experience, one that everyone must do, regardless of the products they use to try and fool themselves. Age before beauty to reveal the inner you, only to discover you were beautiful all along.
