Poetry: Leftovers

I had the menu all planned out,
I knew what I was making.
The turkey, stuffed and in the pan,
The pumpkin pies were baking.

But did I really have enough,
To feed a hungry crowd.
I wanted to make sure this year,
To make my family proud.

Another casserole might help,
And yet another pie.
And even though the hour was late,
I knew I had to try.

Thanksgiving came and the table groaned,
Under this massive weight.
And even though the plates were clean,
It seemed that no one ate.

It took me several hours,
To put all the food away.
And once again I'll have enough,
To last til New Year's Day.
