Lots of people are making money from writing for online sources. There are several sites that offer contributors compensation for their output of articles, but an online writer can also branch out into writing posts for blogs or writing reviews. There are many possibilities but don't start seeing dollar signs if you are not willing to dedicate a significant amount of time and energy into building a portfolio of work.
The following writing sites all have payment policies for contributing writers.
Helium.com
This site is full of opportunities for writers. They give an upfront payment for every article written to an eligible title, as long as the writer has at least one rating star. This might sound like a lot of conditions but it really is not a complicated process and the earnings can add up pretty quickly if you have quick fingers. On top of that there are writing contests for a chance to win additional money and marketplace titles that pay anywhere from $8 all the way up to $120 per article.
Suite101.com
This site does not pay for your article, but it will give you a generous share of the ad revenue if someone clicks on one of the well placed advertisements on your page. The ad revenues are tallied and credited to your Suite account on a day lag and payments are made through PayPal automatically once a month.
AssociatedContent.com
This site pays only American writers an upfront payment for articles submitted. All other writers will get a share of the revenue earnings though. They also pay via PayPal.
Ghost writing is yet another way to turn a profit from writing on the web. There are lots of content mills that hire freelancers to supply them with web content for their clients or you may be able to land a contract directly with the site that needs content.

If blogging is more your style PayPerPost.com and LinkPost.com are two of the most recognized in the field.
