"Hagra Diabolist" is a 3/2 black ogre shaman ally printed as an uncommon for the Magic the Gathering expansion set known as "Zendikar." This is one of the creatures printed in the Zendikar expansion set that revolves around a new creature type known as the "ally." The ally creature type is a new dynamic introduced to Magic the Gathering via the Zendikar expansion set. Allies are designed to work with other allies and not their respective creature types. Despite the differences of creature types, if they are allies, they work well together. This would entice players to make an ally-themed deck.
The converted mana cost for Hagra Diabolist is five. You will need one black mana and four colorless mana to play Hagra Diabolist from your hand onto the battlefield. For what the Hagra Diabolist can do, the converted mana cost seems to be pretty worth it nowadays. In a standard format deck, you may want to build an ally-themed let alone black ally deck with a few Hagra Diabolist cards.
What does Hagra Diabolist do in the first place?
When Hagra Diabolist enters the battlefield under your control, you may have the target player lose X life points. X is equal to the number of allies on the battlefield under your control. If there are eight allies, including Hagra Diabolist, under your control, you can make an opponent lose eight points of life. As long as Hagra Diabolist remains on the battlefield, you can play any ally card on the battlefield and have the same effect. You can play a completely different ally card and make an opponent lose X life points.
For any ally deck with black cards, Hagra Diabolist is definitely a good ally card to have. With a bunch of ally cards on the battlefield, you can drop one ally card on the battlefield after another with Hagra Diabolist. Dropping a few ally cards while Hagra Diabolist on the battlefield can really mess up your opponents. Because of this, the Hagra Diabolist is a great ally card to have. Cards like the Hagra Diabolist are enticing to build ally-themed decks. In a limited format, you may want to build around allies. If you see the Hagra Diabolist, pick it.
In an extended format, you can really milk this ability. In an extended format deck with Hagra Diabolist, you should have the black enchantment from "Shadowmoor" called "Wound Reflection." Wound Reflection doubles the amount of life points your opponents lose. Should you be able to have Hagra Diabolist and Wound Reflection on the battlefield at the same time, you should be able to end the game in a few turns by playing a few allies. It simply needs to be a bunch of low mana cost ally creature spells.
Overall, Hagra Diabolist seems to be a pretty good card to have if you are building a deck around allies. In a black ally deck, you should definitely have Hagra Diabolist on hand. With this respect, consider Hagra Diabolist as a card to put in an ally deck.
