iPhone app reviews: Audi A4 Driving Challenge

I personally love driving games. I cannot technically drive a car in real life, but I somehow enjoy doing it through video games. Anyway, that is why I decided to download the Audi A4 Driving Challenge app. First of all, it was free, and many things that are free usually are worthy of being tried. Secondly, it is a driving game, a type of game in which I am always interested.

At any rate, I was very excited to try this game out. After all, the screenshots make it look so interesting and glamorous. The 3D graphics look sleek and appealing, and you get to drive a relatively fast car. So, when I first saw the screen, I was a little disappointed. After all of the cheap ways that I was able to "customize" my ride, I was presented with a game that ultimately did not make much sense to me.

First, the player has to drive viewing the car from above. Now, in many racing games I have played, the player was usually viewing the car from behind, or, sometimes, from the front (and these on "optional" occasions). To make matters worse, the playability and controllability of the car itself is nonexistent, to say the least. So, not only do I have to cope with trying to control a car from above, a very bad angle (if you ask me), but I also have to try to control it with loose and inefficient controls.

No one can rightly complain about this game. After all, it is free, and most free apps available for sale in the iTunes store are not worth the zero-asking price they ask for. However, we always equate our time to money, and even if we do not waste a dime on such an activity or game, we inevitably think about all the time that we wasted (even if it was just a few minutes) playing the game.

The developers could not have created a more "ad-friendly" game. This game is basically a playable ad. But, if the developers have enough time on their hands, they can also create a game that is really worth it. The graphics are there and the premise is there, and all of this is potential. But, the developers are not making use of that potential and as such, they are also losing many potentially loyal customers. All in all, I do not recommend this game even if it is free.
