Many of us know, some of us all too well, the frustrating sound of a high-pitched baby's cry. Whether the baby wants to sleep, eat, or just needs attention, we have to find some way of calming it down first. Sometimes, we cannot do it naturally ourselves by singing or by rocking him or her, and we must turn to some aids. You may have not thought that your iPhone or iPod would help your baby sleep or calm down, but now it can. With the aSleep Kids Edition app, I can easily put crying babies gently to sleep or calm them down whenever it is needed.
At first I was skeptical of this app. After all, it does sound a little strange to have an app that puts people to sleep. Nevertheless, after having tried the aSleep (for adults) version, I decided to give this version a try. I read the developers' description of the app and was pleased. After downloading it, I restarted my iPhone to lessen the chances of crashing the app. After that, I listened to all of the 15 lullabies included with the app. All of the lullabies sound soothing and wonderful, and do put little ones (and myself!) to sleep. I think that this app makes very good use of the iPhone's capability of playing back sound through decent speakers.
However, there are a few cons associated with this app. First of all, the playback will stop if the iPhone goes to sleep. One remedy that I have tried and recommend is to keep the iPhone plugged in and charging. Another remedy is to change the option that allows the iPhone to go to sleep. Also, I think that this version would benefit from more lullabies. After all, there is almost an "endless" supply of lullabies or songs written for kids, and I'm sure that they have been instrumentally played at some point in time.
Nevertheless, I think that this app is great overall. It really does work in putting babies and young children to sleep, and it can be used to put yourself to sleep, too. I think that this version should be merged with the "adults" version, because the premises are basically the same and one app can definitely do both things at once.
All in all, I highly recommend this app because 1) the price is just right, 2) the sounds themselves are soothing and 3) the app really does what it is advertised to do.
