Automobile charisma: Does it really matter what type of vehicle a man drives?

If experience were to be considered, then my own says "yes." I've always tried to drive the sexiest cars of what ever was being offered at the time I was ready to buy. It wasn't because I wanted to show off, but rather a love for the car itself. Stares, comments, questions, were all a part of owning a car that attracts attention.

There are quite a few guys out there who don't care what kind or car, or what condition its in, they just want to get around. They don't love their car, have any interest in keeping it clean or in good shape, Doesn't mean that they can't afford a new car, or one that they can feel proud to own, it's just that they simply don't care.

For them, it's obvious just how many points they lose when it comes to picking up their date, (if they can get one) the look on the girls face when she sees what a wreak she's going to be carted around in. First and last date, thats the reality most of the time, unless of course he finds someone who don't care one bit about a car and it's appearance.

Now for the real substance for the question of whether it really matters. If the car isn't something of importance other than transportation, then it can be suspected that he wouldn't be able to land a job where his duties would be making business calls. In the eyes of the potential employer, the guys a bum, and wouldn't think twice about not hiring him.

As far as my own personal experience, I was able to evaluate first hand the reactions I would have depending on which car I decided to drive that day. One car is a big late model Chrysler New-Yorker, a 2007 Corvette, and the other, a 1980 Fiat Spider Convertible. The Fiat had only a few thousand on it, so it was brand new being kept in a heated airtight garage, never seeing anything but nice weather and sunshine.

I opted to get some really super sharp road wheels and tires to complete its overall sexy look, and it transformed the car like someone who changed from wearing a tux with a pair of cheap sneakers compared to a pair of $300.00 shoes. The appeal of this little gem was like wearing a Santa suit at a party for little tots. However, the Corvette drew little attention, and when driving the Chysler New-Yorker, hardly anyone would give the slightest bit of notice.

Just one more thing. Not only did the Fiat consistently draw attention, but when ever I would park it, there were always the "your car is sooooo adorable, can you give me a ride?" Well, not all the time, but a good number of times. But I'm old and wise enough to know I shouldn't think that its me they have an interest in. But one things for sure, and that is I feel the level of respect that a man gets when he drives a sharp car, is a lot more than driving a "ho, hum" model with no appeal.
