If you have ever been in an arcade, you will know what the premise of the Arcade Hoops Basketball apps is about. Basically, this app is an electronic version of that fast and fun arcade game that lets you believe, for a couple of minutes, that you are a basketball star. Fortunately, the developers of this particular app have gotten the amount of pressure right; either you make the basket or you don't, and there's nothing like less than one minute to make you shoot as fast as you possibly can.

At first it seemed strange to me that iPhone users would want to play any sports on such a small device. Let's face it - sports are physically demanding and this app is not, unless you believe that giving your thumb and forefinger a workout is physically demanding, too. Nevertheless, many players of this app can still feel as if they were truly playing basketball. You may only be using one finger to shoot, but the music, the background, and the "feel" of the game are worth it.

I say "worth it" because you don't have to pay much to play this game. In fact, it's less than $2 and you get exactly what you expect. I expected nothing but a game that works and an app that delivers a basketball game. I knew that it wouldn't be a full-fledged video game console basketball game in which the players choose their teams and there's a nice round of 4 quarters of basketball. I expected an arcade-type game, and I got it.

The graphics are not bad at all. I can't believe that there are apps out there that are worth the same yet offer so little in terms of graphics. Of course, expecting too much from a seemingly low budget production is a faux pas, but in the case of Arcade Hoops Basketball, I think it's safe to expect (and receive) as much.

Thankfully, there is also a free version of this game. If you do not know whether or not you will enjoy it, the developers are kind enough to let you try it for free. I'm sure that many people will agree when I say that this game is worth the $2 you spend on it, but there are some exceptions. Fortunately, the developers have thought of those exceptions, and for that, I highly recommend this game.
