Writing professional web content

by M. J. Joachim

Created on: November 06, 2009

The internet is filled with articles about so many subjects. As a writer, you can perform a little experiment that will give you a new perspective on web content. Begin by doing a random search and you will probably find that you come up with far too many posts to even read. Choose some silly topic like how to clean smelly shoes; chances are you will bring up ten different articles from three to four years ago, each containing one different answer. Maybe you want to know how to clean a bathtub without breaking your back. Yes, it can be done. Or perhaps you feel like learning about some heavy topic like Christianity. When you start looking at the choices from your search, one by one, you may easily get discouraged at what you find. What is it with all these people who claim to be writers? Didn't they learn how to compose complete sentences and regular paragraphs in school? As a professional author, you know what you need to do.

You are amazed at the things other people call information, and even more shocked when you read the facts that couldn't possibly be true, all carefully including disclaimers of course. You can cringe if you want to, but you might be better off seeing the silver lining in this situation, and looking for the pot of gold at the end of that rainbow. You see, as a writer, you not only have the ability to put fresh content out there on the web, but you have an obligation to help others learn the right information too. It's up to you to write the articles that will make a difference, and set the facts straight when they are slightly misconstrued.

Internet writing is not an easy task by any means. Quantity usually has a way of tipping the balancing scale at the price of quality. But hey, you're a writer, and you can provide both quantity and quality. In fact, you can probably even throw in a little sense of humor, some compassion, and empathy too. Your every day knowledge will amaze people. Your insight will positively thrill them. Your ability to explain things in a way that actually makes sense and format articles so they can be clearly seen without blinding your followers, makes all the difference to those who read your work.

It doesn't matter if you are writing for one of the many internet writing communities out there, publishing your own blog, or working for someone who owns a business and needs your expertise. You have a job to do if you want it, which is to make your mark on the web by providing content that really makes a difference.
