Hulk Hogan joining TNA would have to be considered perhaps one of the most shocking moments in wrestling. This is not the first time he had been on the opposite end against Vince McMahon. In fact, look back in the wrestling history and he had become a member of World Championship Wrestling helping them become even stronger for a period of time. Of course, he didn't do it by himself and had perhaps the biggest storyline being the New World Order.
Times would change but there was the point of conflict with Hogan and Russo in WCW. It came down to a style of what would be best for the company. Vince Russo wanted to do some storylines that seemed ridiculous and turn about everything into a shoot. One of the biggest conflicts would have to involve Bash at the Beach 2000. It was when Jeff Jarrett was the WCW World Heavyweight Champion facing off with Hulk Hogan for the championship.
According to Hogan and probably to an extent Eric Bischoff, the plan was to have Hogan beat Jarrett for the belt and then there would be a tournament to crown a new WCW champion and then Hogan would face the tournament winner and do a storyline of who is the undisputed WCW champion. In regards to who was going to be the tournament winner, that is something that never got revealed. It could have been Booker T for all anyone knows or even Jarrett but that didn't happen that way.
What happened was Russo would have Jarrett lay down and then Hogan would pin him. It seemed that the plans would work until Vince Russo came out and cut a very harsh shoot promo on Hulk Hogan. Granted, there had been problems at the time with those two but this was not the way to handle it. This is just one opinion but it was truly unprofessional. It should have been handled behind closed doors and without the audience seeing it because honestly the whole make everything seem like a shoot in WCW was just a mess.
Now, these two are going to have to work together at least from the beginning. Can that happen? Only time will tell. Vince Russo claims to be a changed man and without really judging, it would be best to give him the benefit of the doubt and Hogan will have to do the same thing if they are to work together long-term. The question will be what role will Hulk Hogan play in TNA? That is going to be a mystery but it would be wise not to have him wrestle so much. He isn't as young as he once was and may not have the effect as he had in the past.
Sure, it will help if they use him in the right fashion. Until he shows up in front of the audience at a TNA event whether it's Impact or PPV, it may be speculation that it is just a possible tease. It wouldn't be the first time it happened but only time will tell if this indeed happens. They are getting talked about to a degree but will it make an impact to help the company? One can only hope that it would because the industry could use another competitor in the business.
