"Bala Ged Thief" is a 2/2 black human rogue ally printed as a rare for the Magic the Gathering expansion set known as "Zendikar." Bala Ged Thief is an example of the new dynamic printed for the Zendikar expansion set. It is part of the new creature type introduced in Zendikar known as the Ally. Ally is quite the interesting creature type and dynamic printed in Zendikar.
The converted mana cost for the Bala Ged Thief is four. You will need one black mana and three colorless mana to cast Bala Ged Thief. For what Bala Ged Thief can do, the converted mana cost is well worth it. While the Bala Ged Thief is a human rogue ally, it is meant to be built around other allies. In an ally-themed deck, you will get a lot out of the Bala Ged Thief. To get the most out of the Bala Ged Thief, you want to be build around the theme of allies.
What does the Bala Ged Thief do in the first place?
Should Bala Ged Thief or any other ally enters the battlefield under your control, you make your opponent reveal X cards from his/her hand. X is equal to the number of allies on the battlefield under your control. Say that you have six allies on the battlefield, the target player would reveal up to six cards from his/her hand. You get to pick one of those cards in that person's hand. The player had to discard that card from the hand and into the graveyard.
As long as Bala Ged Thief is on the battlefield, you can make opponents discard cards from their hands whenever allies comes onto the battlefield. As long as it is an ally card that enters the battlefield, you can make your opponents suffer with this ability. You can play two low cost allies and end up making your opponent discard two cards from his/her hand. This is pretty handy for the most part.
In a standard match, you can use "Megrim" to add the insult to the injury. By making your opponent discard a card from his/her hand, s/he will suffer two points of damage via Megrim. With low costing allies, you can make opponents discard at least two or three cards from their hands. When combined with Megrim, you can make your opponents suffer.
Because of what Bala Ged Thief can do, you want to build a black deck around allies. If you want, you could build a multicolored deck built around allies for the most part. The ability to make an opponent discard a card is great. Not only do you manage to get rid of a threatening card, you take away the opponent's card advantage.
Overall, Bala Ged Thief is a pretty handy card. In a deck built around allies, Bala Ged Thief is a good card to have. If you have enough allies, Bala Ged Thief can really mess up an opponent.
