Magic the Gathering card analysis: Seedguide Ash

"Seedguide Ash" is a 4/4 green treefolk druid printed as an uncommon for the Magic the Gathering expansion set known as "Lorwyn." This is somewhat a card that encourages players to build around a theme or "tribe" of creatures. In respect to the Seedguide Ash, players may be encouraged to build around the theme of treefolk creatures. To get the most out of Seedguide Ash, you would want to put this in a mono-green deck.

The converted mana cost for Seedguide Ash is five. You will need one green mana and four colorless mana to play Seedguide Ash onto the battlefield. For what the Seedguide Ash can do, the converted mana cost is reasonable to pay. If you think long term, you could pretty much get the last laugh if an opponent tries to send Seedguide Ash to the graveyard.

What does Seedguide Ash do in the first place?

The ability of Seedguide Ash kicks in when it is sent to the graveyard. In this respect, when Seedguide Ash is sent to the graveyard, you get to laugh and chortle. When Seedguide Ash is sent to the graveyard, you get to search your library for three Forests. You get to play them on the battlefield tapped. This is very handy if something happens to the Seedguide Ash before the start of your turn. When your next turn starts, you should have the advantage when it comes to mana.

There are some ways to get the most out of this ability. One would be to use the green enchantment known as "Mana Reflection." What Mana Reflection does is double the amount of mana produced by any source you control. In this respect, you can get six green mana from those three Forests that come out once Seedguide Ash is sent to the graveyard. Six mana let alone green mana goes a long way. You can play another powerful creature if you want.

You can also combine this with "Deadwood Treefolk." With Deadwood Treefolk, you can return a target creature from your graveyard to your hand once it enters the battlefield. You can bring back Seedguide Ash if it did get sent to the graveyard. Should it get sent to the graveyard while Deadwood Treefolk is still on the battlefield, you can bring it back to your hand when it leaves the battlefield. In this respect, you can bring out three or six Forests for the duration that Deadwood Treefolk is on the battlefield.

Overall, Seedguide Ash is a good card to have for the most part. This is due to the ability of mana acceleration. With certain cards, you can keep using the ability of Seedguide Ash. For any green deck let alone one with treefolk creatures, Seedguide Ash is one creature worth looking into.
