"Timber Protector" is a 4/6 green treefolk warrior printed as a rare for the Magic the Gathering expansion set known as "Lorwyn." This is one of the many cards printed in the Lorwyn block that encourage players to build around a theme or "tribe" of creatures. In respect to Timber Protector, players are encouraged to build around the theme of treefolk creatures. If you are playing a deck with treefolk creatures, Timber Protector is definitely one card you should consider having. This is because the Timber Protector will help out your other treefolk creatures.
The converted mana cost for Timber Protector is five. You will need one green mana and four colorless mana to play Timber Protector onto the battlefield. For what the Timber Protector can do, the converted mana cost is very reasonable enough. Luckily, green has the best mana acceleration out of all the five colors in Magic the Gathering.
What does Timber Protector do in the first place?
The first ability is that all of your other treefolk creatures receive +1/+1 as long as Timber Protector is on the battlefield. Being able to boost your other treefolk creatures is pretty much a good thing for the most part. This is perhaps one minor reason you should have Timber Protector in a deck if you are building around the theme of treefolk creatures. But, it is neither the only nor the main ability of Timber Protector.
The main ability is that Timber Protector grants your other treefolk creatures and all your Forests the ability of indestructibility. In this respect, all of your treefolk creatures except for Timber Protector are immune from spells such as "Planar Cleansing," "Akroma's Vengeance," "Damnation," "Catastrophe," "Rout," and "Wrath of God." Your Forests are immune from "Armageddon" and "Catastrophe." As long as Timber Protector is on the battlefield, your treefolk creatures are protected against creature destruction spells and abilities. Your Forests are protected against land destruction spells and abilities.
How do you protect the Timber Protector?
An easy remedy would be to play another Timber Protector. The two Timber Protectors will protect each other. In this respect, both Timber Protectors would be indestructible. The only way to get rid of those Timber Protectors is to Exile one of them or force the controlling player to sacrifice one of them. The Timber Protectors are considered to be other treefolk to each other. If you play a third one, it makes it difficult for your opponent to destroy your lands and treefolk creatures.
Overall, Timber Protector becomes quite the handy card for the most part. This is due to Timber Protector being able to actually protect your Forests and other treefolk creatures. With two Timber Protectors, both of them are able to protect each other.
