Mariana made it home even though her nerves had her on edge. There were a couple times that she nearly crashed into the back of another car. Luckily her emergency reflexes were right on cue and she hit her brakes right on time. She just couldn't believe that Exavier Cantrell would be so pushy! And her own boss! Mr. Cranston was nothing short of ruthless to her! He knew that she could not walk out on that job! He knew she was vulnerable.
She sighed a long, heavy breath and slumped onto the cozy blue couch. She supposed she should understand her boss's position from a business point. He was left no other option. But there had to be another solution! She would just have to talk to Exavier herself. There was no other way.
She spent the rest of the night deciding which outfit would be the most attractive while still professional for the next day and thinking about what she would say to him. He should be at the meeting tomorrow. She'll have to wait for the right moment or coax him to be alone with her so she could approach him. Sure, she can work on the project, she would tell him, but she doesn't have the expertise to take this job on as the leader just yet. And he would be causing her a lot of problems in the office! Surely he will understand! That being decided Mariana dressed in her comfy cotton pajamas, brushed her teeth and slipped into bed. Tomorrow would be a new day!
Mariana awoke an hour earlier than normal. She had a night of restless sleep and now was wide awake with nervous energy. She showered and dressed in a form fitting, silky tan skirt and slipped on a white knit top. Her dark hair was swept up to reveal her long, delicate neck. After she finished the outfit off with white pumps and a couple squirts of perfume she looked in the mirror to check out the results. When she was satisfied that she looked impressive enough, she grabbed her keys and purse and headed out for what was sure to be an interesting day at work.
Sure enough she arrived at the morning meeting to enquiring people speculating on who would be given the project. Mariana wanted to sink into her chair and disappear. She tried to appear as cool as she could, pretending not to hear the conversation around her. Everyone seemed to think Grace would get the project, or maybe Arturo, who also had a impressive profile and the highest seniority besides Mr. Cranston.
