How to select good head lettuce at the store

The next time you are in the grocery store and are trying to find a head of lettuce, there are a few things that you are going to want to consider before you pick a good head. While lettuce tends to be a big seller in most grocery stores, not all lettuce is created equally. What should you be looking for when you go about buying lettuce?

The first thing you are going to want to to look for in a head of lettuce is the color of the lettuce. Lettuce should always be green! If the lettuce is not green, you shouldn't buy it. There shouldn't be any brown spots on the lettuce because this indicates that the lettuce isn't as fresh as it could be. If you see brown, just put it down.

The next thing you should look for when it comes to buying a good head of lettuce is to check the freshness of the lettuce. To get a fresh head of lettuce, you should pick it up and just look at the leaves. If the leaves look crisp, and healthy, you will have a good head of lettuce. If the leaves are limp, or look kind of soggy, you should just put it down, it isn't any good.

Lettuce should ideally be kept in refrigeration for a short period of time. If it is left out, it can lose the little shelf life that it has. If the lettuce has been left out for more than a day or two it can go bad just like any other green product. You have to keep it cool, and you should use the lettuce as soon as possible. Lettuce is cheap so you can use it as soon as you get home, and then buy more the next day.

A good head of lettuce is relatively easy to find, and identify. If you ever need help finding a good head of lettuce, or are curious as to whether or not the lettuce you have is a good pick, you can always ask your grocer. Some stores are better than others when it comes to handling the lettuce they have, but they should all be able to tell you if the lettuce is fresh.

Lettuce is a great addition to any meal, including salads, or sandwiches. The green, leafy texture makes the food you eat better, and can offer you a little bit of nutritional value as well.
