"Sunrise Sovereign" is a 5/5 red giant warrior printed as a rare for the Magic the Gathering expansion set known as "Lorwyn." This is one of the many cards printed in the Lorwyn set that encourage players to build around a theme of creatures. In respects to the Sunrise Sovereign, players are encouraged to build around the theme of giants. In a giant themed deck, you would want to have at least one Sunrise Sovereign card on hand to use. Plus, you want to have an aggressive deck with Sunrise Sovereign.
The converted mana cost for Sunrise Sovereign is six. You will need one red mana and five colorless mana to bring Sunrise Sovereign from your hand and onto the battlefield. For what the Sunrise Sovereign can do, the converted mana cost seems to be a bit worth it. However, six mana is pretty expensive for a mana cost. Luckily, mana acceleration is quite easy to achieve nowadays.
What does Sunrise Sovereign do in the first place?
The Sunrise Sovereign only has one ability on hand. So far, this ability is more than enough. If you are playing an aggressive deck with giants, Sunrise Sovereign is very much of a good card to have. As long as Sunrise Sovereign is on the battlefield, your other giants get +2/+2 and Trample. Giving your creatures the ability of Trample is a good thing to have.
With Trample, you can attack and not worry about your opponent blocking your giants in the process. Even if opponents block, they are still taking combat damage. You could combine this with "Borderland Behemoth" which gets +4/+4 for each other giant you control. If Sunrise Sovereign is the only other giant on the battlefield under your control, Borderland Behemoth would get +4/+4 from its own ability. It would be an 8/8 creature. Then, it would get an additional +2/+2 from Sunrise Sovereign and become a 10/10 creature. It would be a 10/10 creature with Trample.
You can swing for a good amount of damage. To make things more insane, you can even use "Rage Reflection" to give your creatures Double Strike. A creature with Double Strike and Trample is a force to be reckoned with for the most part.
Overall, the Sunrise Sovereign is a card that is built for aggressive. With this card on the battlefield, you simply need to attack with your other giants. They will simply break through your opponent's defenses. In this respect, this is a must have card for any red giant deck.
