Giants are a fun tribe if not one that typically works that well in competitive formats since they are typically too expensive to really be able to get out before your opponent has killed you but there are a few cards that can help considerably if you can survive until that giant deck gets started and one of the most important thing that a card can do is get rid of the hoard of goblins and fairies that stand between your giants and the opponent.
Thundercloud giant is an uncommon giant shaman from the Lorwyn expansion set of magic the gathering. A 4/4 creature that costs two red and three colorless to put into play it is an average card at this, but its ability makes it very useful. This ability reads "When Thundercloud Shaman enters the battlefield, it deals damage equal to the number of Giants you control to each non-Giant creature."
This is an ability that if you play giants is going to save you. The reason is simple enough, elves, goblins, fairies and kithkin all rely on high numbers of small creatures and while those creatures can grow in power as their numbers go up there is a reasonable chance that even if you have no other giants in play that the 1 damage this will do to all of them will kill several of them and with each giant that you have in play the odds of completely wiping out the opponent's side of the board goes up.
One of the biggest problems with this card is that giants are a tribe that rarely is played by itself. Most of the time when you play giants it is as a backup to your goblins and while you may still be able to destroy your opponent's side of the board if you are playing goblins there is a much higher chance that you will kill your own creature with this making it a blank card in your hand that you are unable to play.
In limited one of the advantage of this over many of the tribal cards is that it doesn't need many other creatures of its own type to be playable because while you may kill one or two of your own creature if you can put out a 4/4 creature and destroy a handful of fairies that is going to be worth the loss of your small creatures in many games.
