Magic the Gathering card analysis: Twinning Glass

"Twinning Glass" is a colorless artifact printed as a rare for the Magic the Gathering expansion set known as "Lorwyn." Twinning Glass is perhaps one of the most interesting artifacts printed in the Lorwyn set. Depending on what type of deck you are playing, Twinning Glass seems to be an artifact worth looking into. However, it depends on the deck and the format you are playing. However, do not use Twinning Glass in a singleton or EDH (Elder Dragon Highlander) match.

The converted mana cost for Twinning Glass is four. You will need four colorless mana to play Twinning Glass. For what Twinning Glass can do, the casting cost seems to be worth it. That is provided if you can bring out Twinning Glass onto the battlefield early enough. Keep in mind that Twinning Glass is an artifact. It means that Twinning Glass is susceptible to anything and everything that affects artifacts.

What does Twinning Glass do in the first place?

By paying one colorless mana, you can tap Twinning Glass. Doing so lets you play a nonland card from your hand without paying its mana cost if it has the same name as a spell that was cast this turn. You can do this during your turn or during someone else's turn during the game. It did not say anything about only having to use this ability as a sorcery spell. In this respect, you can use this as an instant spell. But, this is only if a spell of the same name was cast this turn.

In one respect, your opponent decides to cast something like "Maelstrom Pulse" and you have the same card in your hand. Provided that the person did not use Maelstrom Pulse on the Twinning Glass, you can pay one mana. You can then tap Twinning Glass and then play Maelstrom Pulse from your hand without paying the mana cost.

Unfortunately, you are forced to play deck with multiples of certain cards in a deck to get the most out of Twinning Glass. You have to play one spell the regular way in order to pay another spell of the same name via Twinning Glass. Say that you have two "Maelstrom Archangel" cards in your hand, you will have to tap mana to play one of them. After that, you can pay the one colorless mana and tap Twinning Glass to play the other Maelstrom Archangel.

You are going to need multiples of cards to get the most out of Twinning Glass. If not, then Twinning Glass is not much use to you. Overall, Twinning Glass seems to be interesting enough in writing. In application, it can be tricky to get the most out of Twinning Glass. Do not use this with cards subject to the "legendary rule." Due to the nature of the singleton and EDH formats, Twinning Glass does not seem to be that great of a card to use because it is a bit risky.
